As I stated in an earlier post, Pinot Divino took me to some really cool places. It wasn’t just Nancy and JJ that I culled out of that place as life long friends. There were three more people that I still talk to to this day that warm my heart. It’s one of my favorite things about traveling alone. You don’t just bond with the person or people you’re with. You end up picking up, making friends and littering people back all over the earth. Why is that so great you ask? Because not only are they always part of your heart but you can go visit them. More trips!! Yussssssss.
The first person I met we’ll call him Jack Smith. He’s a nice enough guy. One night I’m sitting in the wine bar and he comes roaring in. He drives a yellow motorcycle and is proud of what he does. He’s a pyrotechnics director for a big movie going on here, ensuring the safety of himself and all the other people who create explosions on set. I’m a little unenthused by the way he’s waving it around. Haha, but I always am. You can’t drop it like a bomb. You gotta slide that type of information in there to watch people be impressed. But since he’s used to dropping bombs I just go with it. He buys me a drink and we chat. He is at least good at making me laugh. And he’s friends with Nancy and JJ. The four of us hang the rest of the night and that’s when he asks, “Do you wanna go blow something up on set?” I’ve become the type of person who rarely says no to these types of things. That’s how the real adventures happen.
………..Um………Yes……….
O_o
Before I know it I’m set up at their private “compound” as they called it. Its really just a banging house with a pool but I’m not mad.

And I meet person number two thanks to person number one. This lovely woman. YAAASSSSSSS!!

Look at her! She’s fabulous. We’re quick friends and it turns out we’ll help each other make it through the rest of Cambodia. We started out small. The first thing we decide to do together is rock a bamboo train. These trains run all through Cambodia. Technically they’re called “Norrys” which is the Khmer word for it. Khmer is the official language spoken by the people of Cambodia. Norry is just the Khmer word for Lorry which is French. It means an improvised rail vehicle. Here she is.

Today they’re used to roll silly tourists all over the place for the most part. You hop on for a few bucks (yes, we used USD here a lot) and they take you super fast to a little place where they try to sell you lots of stuff. I mean, I’m cool with that because the people still have to make a living right? Anyway, the coolest part of the adventure was the way these Norrys were built, only one could get by at a time.

So for the most part you’re kicking it all fast down your little track. I mean really fast. Here’s a clip of the wind in our hair.

That thing is cookin, right? But then you see someone in the distance and your driver has to slow down. We almost play bumper cars but there’s some rule that we’re totally unaware of as to who has to get off this time. They lift the whole damn thing off the tracks.

They plop in on the side of the track and grab the wheels. Haha, sometimes they start rolling away and the driver has to chase them down a bit.

Once all three pieces are safely off the track, with all of us standing around being super unhelpful of course, the other Norry rolls by and we put ourselves back together. Then we’re free to go about our merry little way. The whole process takes about 15 minutes or so. Once we’re assembled, we’re back on our merry little way. Without Chelsea mentioning these trains to me, I may never have traveled to go on one. A neat experience became a moment where I really got to know Cambodia and it’s history, it’s past. However, regardless of how neat this is, wait until you see what happened next.
